Bad news Street Fighter fans! It looks like the newest entry in the series is as good as dead after it was revealed to be only the second biggest game at EVO this year.
You heard right. This year only 1,929 players will be competing in Street Fighter V at the biggest fighting game tournament of the year, and surely only one hundred thousand or so people will tune in to watch.
In case there’s still any doubt, Street Fighter V was officially pronounced dead earlier this week. Numerous sources that don’t play the game confirmed this to be true.
While fans may find this news to be unfortunate, Street Fighter V will at least be in good company as it joins other dead games like Tekken 7, Samurai Shodown, Mortal Kombat 11, Under Night In-Birth, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Soul Calibur 6, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, and many others.
Some still hope that the game is just performing a delayed wake up, but realistically it’s never getting out of this vortex. Sadly, this healthy turnout for the biggest fighting game tournament of the year is the final nail in the coffin.
Rest easy, Street Fighter V.
